Why this happens

Turmeric has natural blood-pressure-lowering and blood-thinning properties. When combined with amlodipine (a blood pressure medication), these effects can add together. Additionally, turmeric may interfere with the enzymes in the liver that break down amlodipine, potentially leading to higher levels of the medicine in your bloodstream.

If you choose to take turmeric supplements, inform your doctor. Monitor your blood pressure regularly at home. Watch for signs of low blood pressure, such as feeling dizzy, lightheaded, or faint, especially when standing up. If you notice unusual bruising or persistent bleeding (such as from the gums), contact your healthcare provider. Standard culinary use of turmeric in food is generally considered safe.
