Can I take Aspirin and Chemydur 60xl together?

Drug interaction guide

Taking aspirin and Chemydur 60XL (isosorbide mononitrate) together can cause your blood pressure to drop lower than intended. This may lead to symptoms like dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, or a 'throbbing' headache. Additionally, aspirin may slightly reduce the heart-protecting benefits or the blood-vessel-widening effect of the Chemydur.

Why this happens

Chemydur works by releasing nitric oxide to widen blood vessels. Aspirin can interfere with certain natural chemicals (prostaglandins) that help these vessels dilate. Furthermore, both drugs can lower blood pressure, and when used together, this effect can be increased (additive effect).

It is generally safe to take these together if they have both been prescribed by your doctor, but you should be cautious. If you feel dizzy or faint, sit or lie down until the feeling passes. Rise slowly from a sitting or lying position. If you experience severe headaches or persistent dizziness, inform your doctor, as they may need to adjust your doses.
