Taking clobazam and oxcarbazepine together can increase the levels of clobazam in your blood. This may make you feel more sleepy, dizzy, or unsteady than usual. It can also increase the risk of breathing difficulties or extreme tiredness.

Why this happens
Oxcarbazepine can slow down the way your liver breaks down clobazam. This causes the clobazam to stay in your body longer and reach higher levels. Additionally, both medicines work by calming the brain, so taking them together can have an 'additive' effect on drowsiness.
What you should do
Back to contentsYou should use this combination with caution. Your doctor may need to adjust your doses or monitor you more closely when you start taking them together or change your dose. If you feel excessively sleepy, confused, or have trouble with your balance or breathing, contact your doctor immediately. Do not stop taking either medication without medical advice, as this could cause seizures to return.
