Can I take Cod liver plus omega fish oil and Vitamin d plus k2 together?

Drug interaction guide

Taking these supplements together is generally safe, but there is a risk of getting too much Vitamin D. Cod liver oil naturally contains high levels of Vitamin D, and adding a separate Vitamin D supplement could lead to excessive levels in the body over time. Additionally, both fish oils and Vitamin K2 can affect how your blood clots, though this is usually only a concern at very high doses.

Why this happens

This is an 'additive' interaction. Both products provide Vitamin D, which can build up in the body because it is fat-soluble. Both fish oil and Vitamin K2 have effects on blood thinning and clotting (fish oil can slightly thin the blood, while K2 helps regulate clotting proteins), though they usually balance each other out.

Check the labels of both supplements to calculate your total daily intake of Vitamin D. For most adults, the total should not exceed 100 micrograms (4,000 IU) per day unless specifically advised by a doctor. If you are taking blood-thinning medication (like warfarin), speak to your GP before taking Vitamin K2 or fish oils.
