Can I take Cordyceps and Royal sun together?

Drug interaction guide

Both Cordyceps and Royal Sun (Agaricus blazei) are medicinal mushrooms that can thin the blood and lower blood sugar levels. Taking them together may increase the risk of bruising, bleeding, or your blood sugar dropping too low (hypoglycaemia).

Why this happens

These supplements have 'additive' effects. This means they work in similar ways to slow down blood clotting and improve how the body handles insulin. When combined, these effects can become stronger than intended.

If you choose to take both, monitor your blood sugar levels closely (if you are diabetic) and watch for signs of easy bruising or bleeding gums. If you have an upcoming surgery, stop taking both at least two weeks before the procedure. Consult your doctor if you are already taking prescribed blood thinners or diabetes medication.

Auto-immune conditions (e.g., multiple sclerosis, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis)

These supplements can increase immune system activity, which may worsen the symptoms of autoimmune diseases. Avoid use if you have these conditions.

Bleeding disorders or upcoming surgery

Both supplements may slow blood clotting and increase the risk of bleeding during and after surgery. You must stop taking them at least 2 weeks before any scheduled surgical procedure.

Diabetes (on medication)

These supplements can lower blood sugar levels. When taken with insulin or other diabetes medicines, they may cause your blood sugar to drop dangerously low (hypoglycaemia).

Alcohol

It is best to avoid or strictly limit alcohol when taking these supplements. Both Cordyceps and Royal Sun mushrooms may affect liver function or blood sugar levels, and alcohol can increase the risk of liver strain or cause unpredictable changes in blood sugar.

Caffeine (Coffee, Tea, Energy Drinks)

Cordyceps may have mild stimulant properties. Consuming caffeine alongside this supplement may increase feelings of jitteriness, rapid heartbeat, or difficulty sleeping.
