Can I take Entresto and Furosemide together?

Taking Entresto and furosemide together can cause your blood pressure to drop too low (hypotension) and may affect how well your kidneys work. It can also lead to a significant loss of body fluids (dehydration).

Why this happens

Both medicines work to remove excess fluid and salt from your body and lower your blood pressure. Entresto contains sacubitril, which increases the effect of natural chemicals that make you pass more urine, while furosemide is a 'water pill' (diuretic) that does the same. When used together, their effects add up, which can lead to dehydration or a sudden drop in blood pressure.

You can take these medicines together, but your doctor should monitor you closely. Your doctor may need to adjust your dose of furosemide when you start Entresto. Watch out for signs of low blood pressure, such as feeling dizzy, lightheaded, or faint, especially when standing up. Ensure you attend any scheduled blood tests to check your kidney function.
