Can I take Fluvoxamine and Intuniv together?

Why this happens

Fluvoxamine blocks a specific enzyme in the liver (called CYP3A4) that is responsible for breaking down guanfacine. Because the liver cannot clear the guanfacine as quickly as usual, the medicine builds up to higher levels in your body.

You must speak to your doctor before taking these two medicines together. If they are prescribed together, your doctor will likely need to reduce your dose of Intuniv (often by half) and monitor your blood pressure and heart rate closely. Seek medical help immediately if you feel very dizzy, confused, or like you might pass out.
