Taking iron supplements at the same time as venlafaxine may reduce the amount of venlafaxine your body absorbs. This could make your antidepressant medication less effective at managing your symptoms.

Why this happens
Iron can bind to certain medications in the digestive tract, forming a complex that is too large for the body to absorb properly. This reduces the concentration of the medicine in your bloodstream.
What you should do
To avoid this interaction, it is best to separate the doses. Take your venlafaxine at least 2 hours before or 4 to 6 hours after taking your iron supplement. If you notice your mood worsening or your anxiety increasing, speak with your doctor or pharmacist.
