Taking paracetamol and amitriptyline together is generally safe, but both medications can cause drowsiness. When taken together, you may feel more tired, dizzy, or sleepy than usual. Additionally, you must be very careful with alcohol consumption while taking these medicines.

Why this happens
Both drugs can have a mild depressing effect on the central nervous system. Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant that often causes sedation, and while paracetamol is a painkiller, combining it with other medications or alcohol can increase the strain on your liver and your level of tiredness.
What you should do
Back to contentsYou can take these two medicines together, but be aware that you may feel extra drowsy. Do not drive or operate machinery until you are certain you are not impaired. It is best to avoid or strictly limit alcohol, as drinking while taking paracetamol increases the risk of liver damage, and alcohol will significantly worsen the sedative effects of amitriptyline.
