Taking these two medicines together can cause your blood pressure to drop too low (hypotension). You may also experience a very slow heart rate or feel excessively tired, dizzy, or faint. There is also an increased risk of your kidneys not working as well as they should or your blood potassium levels becoming too high.

Why this happens
Both medicines work to lower blood pressure but in different ways. Telxtra (telmisartan) relaxes blood vessels, while Tenrid AT (atenolol) slows the heart rate. When used together, their effects add up, which can sometimes lower blood pressure or heart rate more than intended.

Your doctor may want to monitor your blood pressure, heart rate, and kidney function more closely, especially when you first start the combination or if your dose is changed.
