These gourmet cheddar hot dogs offer a sophisticated twist on a classic fast-food favourite. By replacing standard onions with a rich, savoury topping of leeks and apples braised in crisp apple cider, you create a complex flavour profile that balances sweetness with a hint of spice from caraway and allspice. The addition of sharp cheddar cheese adds a lovely creaminess that melts perfectly against the heat of the grilled beef sausages.
This high-protein dish is an excellent choice for a weekend lunch or a more refined garden barbecue. Using buttery brioche rolls adds a touch of indulgence, while the Dijon mustard provides a sharp contrast to the braised fruit. It is a comforting, homemade meal that feels special enough for entertaining friends or simply upgrading your midweek dinner routine.
