Crab Tostadas

These fresh crab tostadas are a vibrant, high-protein choice for a light lunch or an impressive starter. By combining sweet lump crabmeat with zesty lime, punchy red onion, and a hint of jalapeño heat, you create a sophisticated seafood topping that perfectly balances flavour and texture. The crunch of the golden tostada shell provides the ideal base for the creamy avocado and succulent dressed crab.

Ideal for those seeking a nutritious, low-effort meal that doesn't compromise on quality, this recipe relies on simple, fresh ingredients that require minimal prep. While the crab is the star of the show, the addition of coriander and ripe tomatoes brings a bright, summery feel to the plate. Serve these as a refreshing weekend brunch or an elegant light dinner during the warmer months.

Ingredients for Crab Tostadas

  • 450g lump crabmeat

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise

  • 3 tablespoons finely chopped red onion

  • 1 jalapeño, stemmed and finely chopped

  • 3 plum tomatoes, cored, seeded, and chopped

  • 1/4 cup lightly packed coriander leaves, chopped

  • 2 limes, finely grated zest and juice

  • Salt and black pepper

  • 8 flat tostada shells, packaged or homemade

  • 1 avocado, pitted and thinly sliced

  • Coriander sprigs

  • 2 limes, quartered

Put the crabmeat in a bowl. Pick through it with your fingers to remove any cartilage.

Add the oil, mayonnaise, onion, jalapeño, tomatoes, coriander, and lime zest and juice to the crabmeat. Using a rubber spatula or spoon, gently fold (or toss) all ingredients until well blended. Season well with salt and pepper.

Top each tostada shell with a few slices of avocado, place a generous serving of the crabmeat mixture over it, and garnish with a sprig of coriander. Serve each with a lime wedge.
