Drug interaction guide

Taking amlodipine and amitriptyline together can cause your blood pressure to drop lower than intended. Why this happens

Both drugs have the effect of lowering blood pressure (amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker and amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant with alpha-blocking properties). What you should do

You can take these together, but you should be cautious. Move slowly when changing positions (like getting out of bed) to avoid dizziness. If you feel very dizzy, have a racing heartbeat, or faint, contact your doctor. Your doctor may want to monitor your blood pressure more closely when you first start this combination.
