Both Royal Sun (Agaricus blazei) and Shiitake mushrooms can lower blood sugar levels and thin the blood. Taking them together might increase the risk of your blood sugar dropping too low (hypoglycaemia) or make you bruise or bleed more easily.

Why this happens
These mushrooms contain compounds called beta-glucans and other chemicals that can improve insulin sensitivity and inhibit platelets (the cells that help your blood clot). When combined, these effects can be additive.
What you should do
It is usually fine to eat these as part of a normal diet. However, if you are taking concentrated supplements, you should use caution. Monitor your blood sugar levels closely if you have diabetes, and watch for signs of easy bruising or bleeding. If you have an upcoming surgery, stop taking these supplements at least two weeks beforehand.
