Taking ibuprofen (Nurofen) with valsartan can make your blood pressure medicine less effective. More importantly, it can significantly increase the risk of kidney problems, especially if you are older, dehydrated, or already have kidney issues. It can also cause your body to hold onto too much potassium, which can be dangerous for your heart.

Why this happens
Valsartan works by relaxing blood vessels and helping the kidneys remove salt and water. Ibuprofen blocks chemicals called prostaglandins that help keep the blood vessels in the kidneys open. When both are taken together, the blood flow to the kidneys can drop too low, and the blood pressure-lowering effect of valsartan is reduced.
What you should do
Back to contentsYou should avoid taking ibuprofen while on valsartan unless your doctor specifically tells you to. If you need pain relief, paracetamol is usually a safer choice, but you should still limit your alcohol intake when taking it. Treatment and medication
Can I take Acetaminophen and Trazodone together?
Taking paracetamol (acetaminophen) and trazodone together is generally considered safe, but there is a small risk of increased side effects. Both substances are processed by the liver, and in some cases, taking them together might slightly increase the levels of trazodone in your blood. This could make you feel more drowsy or dizzy than usual. Additionally, both medications can occasionally affect your liver function, so using them together over a long period requires caution.

Treatment and medication
Can I take Amitriptyline and Co-codamol together?
