Why this happens

Atorvastatin is processed by the liver (specifically the CYP3A4 enzyme). Interactions usually occur when other substances block this enzyme, leading to high levels of the drug in the blood.

You can take your atorvastatin as prescribed. Be aware that you should avoid drinking large amounts of grapefruit juice (more than 1.2 litres a day), as this can increase the risk of side effects like muscle pain.
