Taking Microgynon (a combined oral contraceptive pill) alongside cannabis (often referred to as '15' in certain contexts or slang) can make your contraception less effective, increasing the risk of an unplanned pregnancy. It can also increase the risk of side effects from the pill, such as blood clots, and may worsen the side effects of cannabis, such as a racing heart or anxiety.

Why this happens
Cannabis can speed up the way your liver breaks down the hormones in Microgynon (estrogen and progestogen). This lowers the level of these hormones in your blood, which may prevent the pill from stopping ovulation. Additionally, both substances can increase your heart rate and affect blood pressure, putting extra strain on your cardiovascular system.
What you should do
Back to contentsIt is best to avoid using cannabis while taking Microgynon. If you do use both, you should use a barrier method of contraception (like condoms) to prevent pregnancy. You should also be aware that it is illegal to drive with any cannabis in your system in the UK, regardless of whether you feel impaired. If you experience chest pain, shortness of breath, or a very fast heartbeat, seek medical advice immediately.

Treatment and medication
Can I take Codeine and Magnesium together?
Taking magnesium and codeine together can lead to increased drowsiness and may cause constipation. Magnesium can also slightly interfere with how your body absorbs codeine if taken at the exact same time.

Treatment and medication
Can I take Acetaminophen and Trazodone together?
Taking paracetamol (acetaminophen) and trazodone together is generally considered safe, but there is a small risk of increased side effects. Both substances are processed by the liver, and in some cases, taking them together might slightly increase the levels of trazodone in your blood. This could make you feel more drowsy or dizzy than usual. Additionally, both medications can occasionally affect your liver function, so using them together over a long period requires caution.
