Can I take 50 and Baclofen together?

Drug interaction guide

Taking 5-HTP and baclofen together can make you feel very sleepy, dizzy, or lightheaded. It may also cause your breathing to slow down or make you feel confused. There is also a small risk of a rare but serious condition called serotonin syndrome, which can cause shivering, sweating, and a fast heartbeat.

Why this happens

Both substances affect the central nervous system. Baclofen is a muscle relaxant that slows down brain activity, while 5-HTP increases serotonin levels. When used together, their sedative effects add up (additive effect). Additionally, both drugs can influence serotonin pathways, which may lead to an over-accumulation of serotonin.

You should use caution if taking these together. It is best to speak with your doctor or pharmacist before starting 5-HTP if you are already taking baclofen. Do not drive or operate machinery until you are certain the combination does not make you too drowsy. If you experience severe confusion, shivering, or difficulty breathing, seek medical help immediately.
