Taking 5-HTP and methylphenidate together can lead to a rare but very serious condition called serotonin syndrome. This happens when there is too much of a chemical called serotonin in your brain. Symptoms can include feeling very agitated, confused, or sweaty, as well as having a fast heartbeat, shivering, muscle twitching, or diarrhoea. In severe cases, it can be life-threatening.

Why this happens
5-HTP is a building block that your body uses to make serotonin. Methylphenidate (often known by brand names like Ritalin or Concerta) primarily increases dopamine, but it also slightly increases serotonin levels. When taken together, these two substances can cause serotonin levels to rise to dangerous levels.

If you are already taking both, do not stop your prescribed medication, but speak to your doctor or pharmacist as soon as possible. Seek immediate medical help if you experience a high fever, seizures, or loss of consciousness.

Treatment and medication
Can I take Copper and Milk thistle extract together?
Taking milk thistle and copper together may slightly reduce how much copper your body absorbs. Milk thistle contains substances that can bind to minerals like copper in the digestive tract, making it harder for them to enter your bloodstream.

Treatment and medication
Can I take 25 and Concerta together?
Combining alcohol with Concerta (methylphenidate) can cause the medication to be released into your bloodstream too quickly. This can lead to an increase in side effects such as a racing heart, high blood pressure, anxiety, and sleep problems. Alcohol can also mask the effects of Concerta, making you feel less intoxicated than you actually are, which increases the risk of alcohol poisoning or accidents.
