Can I take Amlodipine and Statins together?

Why this happens

Amlodipine and many statins are broken down in the body by the same liver enzyme (called CYP3A4). Because amlodipine slows down this enzyme, the statin stays in your system longer and reaches higher levels than intended.

If you are taking simvastatin, your doctor should limit your dose to a maximum of 20mg daily while you are on amlodipine. For other statins like atorvastatin, your doctor may monitor you more closely. If you experience unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, contact your doctor immediately. Do not stop taking your medication without medical advice.
