Taking aspirin and ramipril together can sometimes make the ramipril less effective at lowering your blood pressure. There is also a small risk that the combination could affect how well your kidneys work, especially if you are older, dehydrated, or already have kidney problems.

Why this happens
Ramipril works by relaxing blood vessels, partly through a substance called prostaglandin. Aspirin (especially at higher doses) blocks the production of this substance, which can stop ramipril from working as well. Both drugs can also reduce blood flow to the kidneys.
What you should do
For most people taking low-dose aspirin (75mg to 150mg) for heart protection, this combination is safe and commonly prescribed. However, you should have your blood pressure and kidney function checked regularly by your doctor. Avoid taking high-dose aspirin (for pain relief) frequently without speaking to your GP. Ensure you stay well-hydrated.
