Can I take Atorvastatin and Vitamin d together?

Taking Vitamin D supplements might slightly lower the levels of atorvastatin in your blood. Conversely, atorvastatin may actually help increase the levels of Vitamin D in your body.

Why this happens

Both substances are processed by the same enzyme in the liver (CYP3A4). Vitamin D may speed up this enzyme, causing the body to clear atorvastatin slightly faster. At the same time, statins are known to potentially boost Vitamin D levels through a separate biological pathway.

What you should do

You can generally take these together safely. You do not need to change your dose unless advised by your doctor. Your doctor will monitor your cholesterol levels as part of your routine check-ups to ensure the statin is still working effectively.
