Taking cod liver oil and garlic supplements together may increase your risk of bruising or bleeding. This is because both supplements have 'blood-thinning' properties. While the risk is generally low for healthy people, it becomes more significant if you are already taking prescription blood thinners or are planning to have surgery.
Why this happens
Both cod liver oil (which contains omega-3 fatty acids) and garlic have antiplatelet effects. This means they both make the 'sticky' cells in your blood (platelets) less likely to clump together to form clots. When used together, this effect is added together, making it harder for your blood to clot if you get a cut or injury.
What you should do
For most people, taking these together in standard doses is fine, but you should watch for signs of easy bruising, nosebleeds, or bleeding gums. If you are scheduled for surgery or dental work, you should stop taking both supplements at least two weeks beforehand. If you are already taking prescription blood-thinning medication (like warfarin, aspirin, or clopidogrel), speak to your doctor before combining these supplements.
Important precautions
Pregnancy
Do not take cod liver oil if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. It contains high levels of Vitamin A (retinol), which can harm the development of an unborn baby.
Surgery or dental procedures
Both cod liver oil and garlic have blood-thinning effects. You must stop taking them at least two weeks before any planned surgery or dental work to prevent excessive bleeding.
Food and drink warnings
Alcohol
It is best to avoid or strictly limit alcohol when taking garlic supplements. Both garlic and alcohol can have blood-thinning effects; combining them may increase your risk of bruising or bleeding. Additionally, alcohol can irritate the stomach lining, which may worsen the digestive side effects sometimes caused by garlic.
It is best to avoid or strictly limit alcohol when taking cod liver oil. Both alcohol and high doses of vitamin A (found in cod liver oil) can put strain on the liver; combining them may increase the risk of liver toxicity.

Can I take Iron supplements and Sedoxil together?
Taking iron supplements at the same time as Sedoxil (mexazolam) may reduce how much of the medication your body absorbs. This could make the Sedoxil less effective at treating anxiety or helping you sleep.

Can I take Mounjaro and Metformin together?
When taken together, Mounjaro and Metformin can increase the risk of your blood sugar levels dropping too low (hypoglycaemia). While both drugs work to lower blood sugar, they do so in different ways, which can sometimes lead to an additive effect. Additionally, Mounjaro slows down how quickly your stomach empties, which might slightly change how your body absorbs Metformin, though this is usually not a major concern.
