Can I take Copper and Vitamin c together?

Taking high doses of vitamin C at the same time as copper supplements may reduce the amount of copper your body absorbs. Over a long period, this could potentially lead to a copper deficiency.

Why this happens

Vitamin C can change the chemical state of copper in the digestive tract, making it harder for the body to take it into the bloodstream. High levels of vitamin C may also compete with copper for transport into cells.

If you need to take both, try to take them at different times of the day (at least 2 hours apart). If you are only taking a standard multivitamin containing both, the doses are usually balanced and unlikely to cause a problem. Avoid taking more than 1,000mg of vitamin C daily if you are concerned about your copper levels.
