Taking amlodipine and ramipril together can cause your blood pressure to drop lower than if you took either medicine alone. While this is often the goal of treatment, it can sometimes make you feel dizzy, lightheaded, or faint, especially when you stand up quickly. It may also increase the risk of your kidneys not working as well as they should.

Why this happens
Both medicines work to lower blood pressure but in different ways: amlodipine relaxes the muscles in your blood vessel walls, while ramipril blocks a hormone that causes blood vessels to tighten. Because they both target the blood vessels, their effects add together (an additive effect).
What you should do
This is a very common and effective combination, but you should be careful when first starting them or when your dose is increased. To avoid dizziness, get up slowly from a sitting or lying position. Your doctor will likely perform regular blood tests to check your kidney function and potassium levels. If you feel very dizzy or faint, contact your doctor.
