Can I take Atorvastatin and Nustendi together?

Taking these two medicines together can increase the amount of atorvastatin in your blood. This makes it more likely that you will experience side effects, particularly muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness (a condition called myopathy). In rare cases, this can lead to serious kidney problems.

Why this happens

Nustendi is a combination tablet containing two medicines: bempedoic acid and ezetimibe. The bempedoic acid part of Nustendi can block the way your body normally clears atorvastatin from your system. This causes the level of atorvastatin to rise higher than intended.

What you should do

You can take these medicines together, but your doctor should limit your dose of atorvastatin to no more than 20mg per day (or 40mg if you are already taking that dose without issues). If you experience any unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, contact your doctor immediately.
