There are no known significant interactions between ashwagandha and vitamin B2 (riboflavin). They are generally considered safe to take together.
You can usually take ashwagandha and vitamin B12 together.
Ashwagandha is an adaptogenic herb that primarily affects the body's stress response system, while vitamin B2 is a water-soluble vitamin essential for energy production.
They do not share the same metabolic pathways in the liver, nor do they have opposing or overlapping effects that would cause a safety concern.
How to take ashwagandha and vitamin B12 safely
As with any supplement, it is best to follow the dosage instructions on the product labels and inform your doctor or pharmacist about everything you are taking.
Important precautions
Pregnancy
Do not use ashwagandha during pregnancy as it may have abortifacient effects (it could cause a miscarriage).
Autoimmune diseases
Ashwagandha can stimulate the immune system, which may worsen the symptoms of autoimmune conditions such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and MS.
Hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid)
Ashwagandha can increase thyroid hormone levels. You must avoid it if you have an overactive thyroid, as it may worsen your condition or interfere with thyroid medications.
Scheduled Surgery
Stop taking ashwagandha at least 2 weeks before surgery; it can slow down the central nervous system and may dangerously increase the effect of anaesthesia.
Food and drink warnings
Alcohol
It is best to avoid or strictly limit alcohol while taking ashwagandha. It has sedative properties and may enhance the effects of alcohol.
Combining them can lead to excessive drowsiness, impaired coordination, and slowed reaction times.
