Can I take Atorvàstatin and Clopodogrel together?

Atorvastatin may slightly reduce the effectiveness of clopidogrel in preventing blood clots. However, most clinical studies show that this does not significantly increase the risk of heart attacks or strokes for most patients.

Why this happens

Both drugs are processed by the same enzyme in the liver (CYP3A4). Because atorvastatin uses this enzyme, it can slow down the body's ability to convert clopidogrel into its active form.

You can usually take these medicines together safely. Do not stop taking either medication without speaking to your doctor, as they are often prescribed together to prevent heart disease. Your doctor may choose a different statin (like rosuvastatin or pravastatin) if they have specific concerns about your heart health.
