Why this happens
These supplements have 'additive' effects. This means they work in similar ways: both contain compounds (like beta-glucans) that can improve insulin sensitivity and others that may prevent blood platelets from sticking together. When combined, these effects can become stronger.
What you should do
Back to contentsThis combination is usually fine for most healthy people, but you should use caution. If you have diabetes or take blood-thinning medication (like warfarin or aspirin), speak to your doctor before mixing them. Monitor your blood sugar levels closely and watch for signs of easy bruising or nosebleeds. If you have an upcoming surgery, stop taking both at least two weeks beforehand.

Important precautions
Back to contentsSurgery
Stop taking these supplements at least 2 weeks before any scheduled surgery. Both lion's mane and maitake may slow blood clotting, which increases your risk of excessive bleeding during and after the procedure.
Diabetes
Maitake can lower your blood sugar levels. If you are taking insulin or other diabetes medications, using maitake may cause your blood sugar to drop too low (hypoglycaemia). You must monitor your blood sugar closely.

Combining them may increase the risk of drowsiness or dizziness. Additionally, alcohol can cause inflammation that may counteract the potential neuroprotective benefits of the supplement.

Treatment and medication
Can I take Lisinopril and Potassium together?
Taking lisinopril and potassium supplements together can cause the levels of potassium in your blood to become dangerously high (a condition called hyperkalaemia). While your body needs potassium for your heart and muscles to work, too much of it can lead to serious heart rhythm problems or even cause the heart to stop. Symptoms of high potassium can include muscle weakness, tingling sensations, or palpitations, but often there are no symptoms until the level is very high.

Treatment and medication
