Why this happens
Omeprazole (a proton pump inhibitor for stomach acid) and ramipril (an ACE inhibitor for blood pressure) are processed by different pathways in the body and do not interfere with how the other works.
What you should do
Back to contentsYou can continue taking both medicines as prescribed by your doctor. It is usually best to take omeprazole in the morning before breakfast, while ramipril can be taken at any time of day as long as you are consistent.

Important precautions
Back to contentsPregnancy
Do not take ramipril if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. It can cause serious harm, including kidney failure and skull deformities, to a developing baby.
Angioedema (Severe Swelling)
Seek emergency medical help immediately if you experience swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat. This is a rare but life-threatening allergic reaction more common with ACE inhibitors like ramipril.
Severe diarrhoea
Contact your doctor immediately if you develop severe or persistent watery diarrhoea, as omeprazole can increase the risk of a serious bowel infection called Clostridium difficile.
Vitamin B12 deficiency
Long-term use of omeprazole can prevent your body from absorbing Vitamin B12 properly, which may lead to nerve damage or anaemia.
Lupus (SLE)
Seek medical advice if you develop a skin rash, especially in areas exposed to the sun, as omeprazole can trigger or worsen a rare autoimmune condition called Subacute Cutaneous Lupus Erythematosus.
Food and drink warnings
Back to contentsAlcohol
It is best to avoid or strictly limit alcohol while taking ramipril. Alcohol can increase the blood-pressure-lowering effect of the medicine, which may make you feel dizzy, lightheaded, or faint, especially when you first start taking it or when your dose is increased.
It is best to avoid or strictly limit alcohol while taking omeprazole. Alcohol can increase the amount of acid your stomach produces, which may worsen your symptoms or make the medicine less effective. Additionally, both alcohol and omeprazole can irritate the stomach lining.
Salt substitutes (Potassium-based)
Avoid using salt substitutes that contain potassium (such as Lo-Salt). Ramipril can increase the levels of potassium in your blood. Using these substitutes alongside the medicine can lead to dangerously high potassium levels, which can affect your heart rhythm.
General Food Timing
Omeprazole works best if you take it 30 to 60 minutes before a meal, preferably breakfast. Taking it with food can slow down how quickly the medicine starts to work.

Treatment and medication
Can I take Atorvastatin and Rivaroxaban together?
Taking atorvastatin and rivaroxaban together may slightly increase the levels of rivaroxaban in your blood. This could potentially increase the risk of bleeding, such as bruising more easily, nosebleeds, or bleeding from the gums.

Treatment and medication
Can I take Atorvastatin and Shiitake together?
Taking shiitake mushrooms (especially in concentrated supplement form) alongside atorvastatin may increase the risk of muscle-related side effects, such as muscle aches, weakness, or tenderness. In rare cases, this could lead to a more serious condition called rhabdomyolysis, which can damage the kidneys.
