Advising on osteoarthritis
Healthcare Professionals working with OA sufferers are likely to encounter regular queries on management options, particularly following recent discussions surrounding the safety and efficacy of paracetamol for the condition, and the proposed change to National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) Guidance on paracetamol in OA.
To help alleviate the confusion, an advisory board of UK pain specialists, rheumatologists and pharmacists convened. The group’s aim was to consider how over the counter (OTC) medications and nutritional supplements (nutraceuticals) might be used optimally to support patients in their efforts to self-manage their OA.
It was agreed that a review of the latest evidence for OTC options for joint pain in OA would be valuable, helping healthcare professionals offer a more holistic approach to the management of OA.
